Breath Magazine

Design 12 consistent magazine pages for a brand new magazine including multiple ads and article and logos that show the magazine theme (beauty).

Process and tools

Everything started with doing sketches to mark where things would go on each page. A name (Breath) for the magazine was picked after brainstorming and the reason that this name was picked is the simplicity and the freshness that can be felt by hearing the name. Then, some ideas for the logo was sketched out. Most of the ideas had geometric shapes included in them for the simplicity or motion effect to express the word. Logo with a circle behind "B" was chosen which got changed a bit more later on to parts of circle behind every letter.

This magazine was chose to be a beauty magazine. Therefore, all the ads and articles were designed to be about makeup and beauty. The reason that beauty seemed the best match for the name was the freshness of the word "Breath" and make up and beauty is all about freshness.

This process took about 4-5 weeks and page layouts were adjusted many times until it ended up with this final work.

Coffee package

Design a unique coffee bag design for a brand new brewery/cafe that just opened. They also wanted a logo designed and included on the package. The style was totally personalized and was not restricted. Attraction was the main goal to achieve.

Process and tools

Firstly, a logo had to be made for this cafe. Different ideas were sketched out. Modern, old style, geometric shapes or abstract. 3 ideas were chosen and done digitally in Adobe Illustrator. All ideas represented coffee or coffee shop. At the end a logo with three leafs that also looked like coffee beans was chosen because it was clear and easy to remember.

After the logo, ideas were sketched out for the coffee bag itself. They were all abstract and unique. Final decision was the design that was the most unusual with many different components hidden. Also this design had leaves that matched the logo I designed before.

Then, it was time to pick out colours for this design. 4 different colour compositions are shown below and the 4th one was chosen to be the best out of all because it was bold and text was still easy to read.

Air brush technique was used to colour this piece. Final logo was also placed on the artwork and colours were picked from the main artwork colour composition.

Tools that were used to make this project were Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator.

Concert Poster

Promoting a Covid 19 benefit summer concert coming to London Ontario for the first time.

Process and tools

Firstly, a song was picked from a personal favorite music band and then highlighted the main parts of the lyrics which also could be illustrated. Then, started mixing all those components plus feelings that was given through the lyrics and sketched out some ideas. The final idea was not in the initial 3 main concepts but it was inspired by them.

After deciding on the basic design, colours were added and required text on poster. Fonts chosen were important because they had to help represent the band and their song types which in this case, the song "I see red" was the inspiration for this poster and this song is loud and scary. a few different colour compositions were made to see which could work. Below are images are rejected compositions.

Final composition was the best out of all because it shows everything that helps represent the band and song and it is not overly done and is clear and easy to read. A mockup was made to show the final work better.

Book cover

Redesign a new book cover for an existing book. Cover had to follow either structure, chaos or hide design method.

Process and tools

For this project, I had to follow Chaos, structure or hide design method. To start, I sketched at least 10 ideas for each method.

Then, picked the best ones from each method and redid them in black and white but digitally. First on left is chaos because there is lots happening and words are not following any rule. Second is structure which also says "Kabul" in Farsi which is the language an the place this book was originally written in and placed at. On the right is hide which kites are hiding under words.

Moved forward with sstructure and hide idea and added more details and colour digitally. Added all the elements bthat a book cover would contain such as summary, author and barcode and etc.

Final work was the one with two languages. the texture behind is concrete wall texture which represents houses and walls in Kabul and the word Kabul is blended and looks like it's a part of the wall.

Mom? Dad?

Movie Poster

Creating a non realistic movie and designing a movie poster for that. Movie poster had to show the theme perfectly and had to be made of many different images that were put together.

Process and tools

Before starting any design, I personally had to come up with a movie genre and synopsis for my imaginary movie. I chose horror and in this movie parents turn to zombies who go after their own children. I named the movie "Mom? Dad?" and after I started sketching ideas that are shown below.

I picked the idea of the child seeing their parents in a mirror covered in blood and started working on that digitally. I chose many pictures that had to be put together to give me the result I wanted. Tiles, mirror, each character and etc.
I made the scene foggy likeit is in a bathroom and have the name of the movie written on mirror with.

For the final work, I decided to change the child to a younger girl and movie the mirror more to the side to have extra room to play around and show that this movie is scary. For example I added "Help Me" on side and they are all hand written fonts to make it realistic.

Beer label

Create a name and logo and 3 different logos for a brand new craft beer company. 3 labels need to follow a same theme.

Process and tools

Like any other design, I started with sketching out my ideas. I chose the name "Abjo" which means beer in Persian. I sketched out some logo ideas and label concepts.

I decided to go with Persian culture because of the name and show Iran and the culture in my design. I picked "Farvahar" as an inspiration for my logo. Farvahar is one of the most important symbols for Iranians which mean "Good deed, good thought and good word". For labels, I decided to show 3 of the traditional instruments that are being played by women in traditional outfits. Instruments are called "Daf", "Ney" and "Santoor".

I moved forward with my idea and started designing them digitally. For the background of my labels, I chose traditional Iranian tile design and illustrated that. Semi final stage is shown below.

For the final work, I worked around with edges and borders because the text was not visible enough and added the name "Abjo" to the logo and change the tail to a round chape tail to have more room for name.
